Flying in Utah
Thought I'd just post some (not so interesting) news and keep the Region 7 forum a little more alive.
First, I think Robin has been doing a great job as Region 7 Director. I've seen him really go out of his way to obtain information about the region's happenings and events. It really shows his dedication to the kiting communnity. I especially liked his last AKA News post about wanting people to submit information about Region 7... if they don't just want to hear Colorado stuff;
Kiting events have really been picking up here in Utah! It's been slow but it's been gaining. Speak of the Utah Kite Fliers, we've been to one small event and we have another small one coming up this weekend (more community event rather then kite festivals). Later this month many of us head out to Idaho Falls for a kite festival which should be much larger this year (not in Region 7 but our "sister, Region 9"). We also have a new kite event in Utah at International Days. Last year the kite building event was a big hit so we've been invited out to fly kites and make it more of a kite festival. The person in charge wants to grow the kite flying part and has a good understanding of what this means. We will also have an event at Bear Lake this year (again, on the ID side, not the UT side) which was cancelled last year due to the large amount of water shed from melting snow. It's a GREAT location for a kite festival! Huge sandy beach with clear blue water. Robin has also been contacted about a start up festival in WY that several people from UT will be attending. Almost amounts to an event each month (not including the fun flies).
The Utah Kite Fliers have also picked up several new members. We've already had a few fun flies and plan to continue those through the summer. We mainly fly at the same location and on many occations have seen other peopl come out and fly kites as well. Several people stop by and ask us questions about the kites.
So things are picking up and hopefull they will continue to grow!

Thanks Todd. Just now saw this. Trying to catch up slowly since I moved, changed work location (same job) new smartphone. Using it as my computer for now. Can do a lot of my kite related news here but not everything.
See you in Wyoming next week!

Re: Flying in Utah
Dont forget Antelope Island Stampede Labor Day weekend, just north of Salt Lake City, UT. So much more than just a kite festival. From Hot Air Balloons to a stage with continuous live music, firework shows at night, BMX'ers hitting up a half pipe, para gliders, us buggy and landboard kite folk, etc.... and mixed right smack dab in the middle of all of it is the kiters. This event transcends the concept of having a get together for kite flyers and reaches into the realm of being an event for the community. Fliers can come and just fly... or... they can perform. No rules, just hanging out, and doing what we all do best.

Re: Flying in Utah
The guest list for AISF - as well as the list of folks who have *requested* to attend - speaks for itself. My favorite event of the year.
