National Kite Month 2013
Re: National Kite Month 2013
NOTICE - The prizes for registering an event on the NKM Event Calendar will be a weekly drawing of $100 and an overall $200 prize for the most events registered for the entire month. Here are a few details:
1. For every event registered within each week one name will be thrown into a hat and one name pulled out for the weekly $100 prize. An organizer of multiple events within one week will get multiple entries, so more events makes for chances to win.
2. Events stretching over two or more weeks will be entered in the drawings for each week. A single event, such as a museum exhibit, that goes the entire month would get five chances, one each week.
3. Because I have special interest in events that involve children, if your event includes a children's kite building workshop or a children's classroom event I will put that organizer's name into the hat one more time to increase his/her chances at the weekly drawing.
4. A event registration that does not have a valid mailing address and/or current email address may win the weekly drawing but be disqualified because we have nowhere to send a check.
5. At the end of NKM the organizer who has the most events (regardless of length) registered will get a $200 check. However, it is important to register your multiple events under the same name in order for us to determine they are organized by the same entity.
Good luck and go out there and have some NKM fun with kites.

Re: National Kite Month 2013
And the winner of the $100 drawing for the first week of National Kite Month is...
Terry Rankin of Springdale, AR
By including kids kite making the event registered Terry's chances were doubled, and it seemed to pay off. Congratulations Terry.
There's still plenty of time to plan and post an event on the NKM calendar. Go flying with some friends this month, but register it first on the NKM website and maybe some cash will come your way.

Re: National Kite Month 2013
The winner of the drawing for week #2 (and I'm particularly gratified by this one) is:
David Hefferman of Santa Barbara, CA, organizer of the 28th Annual Santa Barbara Kite Festival.
The SB Festival has been David's "labor of love" for some time, and he is excited to receive a $100 check made out to the Santa Barbara Kite Festival. He says he will use the money for next year's event, and is very happy to have his festival associated with National kite Month. I suspect he might even use the money to help insure the SB festival, as it is an AKA sanctioned event.

Re: National Kite Month 2013
And we also have the winner for Week #3. It is (and its a big one):
The City of Aiken, SC
Actually, the Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is Week #3 winner for hosting the 6th Annual Aiken Kite Festival at Citizens Park on April 20. The event was organized by two ladies there, Dia Jackson and Kiersten Warfiled. They are honored to be recipients of an NKM prize, and have requested the check be made out to the City of Aiken. I'm told it will go into the Departments coffers to be used for kite festival expenses in the future. Very appropriate.

Re: National Kite Month 2013
The winner of Week #4 drawing goes by the name AboutKites. Putting up a kite display and posting a notice of National Kite Month at Stanaker Library in Houston, TX (and several dozen other libraries and schools) has earned the $100 prize. Many of these libraries have educational offerings for kids that involve kites during the month of April, which is the windy month in Houston, and Stanaker is included. This type of effort should be repeated all over the country.

Re: National Kite Month 2013
The absolutely random number generator generated a winner for the final week of NKM 2013, and it is Chuck Holmes or Spartanburg, SC. He will receive $100 (eventually) for organizing a kite display and youth kite workshop at the Spartanburg Main Library. Again, kids kite making (worth a second chance in the drawing) may have made the difference. Congratulations Chuck.
And now for the finale: As anyone who studied the NKM event calendar for 30 seconds can tell, the greatest number of events registered during the entire five weeks is Rick Hawkins of Houston, TX. For putting kite displays in about two dozen libraries and another dozen schools, Rick gets the $200 prize and my vote for overachiever of the year. Good work, Rick.
A special thanks goes out from me and the NKM committee to all those who put out the special effort to organize a kiting event and register it on our website. Thank you for bringing kites to others and making National Kite Month a success.
