Kite friends in Japan
Reports are coming in from kite friends in Japan. Modegi-san and family are fine in Tokyo. Mikio Toki is also OK. Reports are that the kite museum has sustained some damage. The family of Takako Baressi are fine. All are suffering from the huge mess the earthquake created in their homes.
No one has yet heard from Mrs Sato. Sato-san lives in the north of Japan where the most damage has occurred.
Drachen Foundation has been receiving reports. For updates check their Facebook page.
This is a disaster of unprecendented scope and scale. Would you be interested in contributing to a fund to help out the kiters of Japan thru our sister organization Japan Kite Association?

Re: Kite friends in Japan
I have heard from somebody who has heard from Sato-san in Aomori. They are well, though as of a few days ago there was no gas or power.

That's good news Jim, I couldn't remember if they live on the Japanese mainland, or the big island to the north.

Re: Kite friends in Japan
Seeing no reply I'm going to assume you were referring to the museum in Tokyo.
It seems to me that museums will be the least of their worries for quite a while.

Re: Kite friends in Japan
I agree, which is why we'll be asking the JKA to divvy up our donation between humanitarian aid and museum repairs. I'm certain Modegi-san will know where our assistance will do the most good.

Barbara:
How do I contact Phil Broder ? Can't seem to find any contact information on the AKA website. I have made a cash donation to the Kitefliers Fund, but want to donate a kite as a prize in the drawing for donors. Please post his contact info, or....Phil, if you read this, please contact me.

Phil:
Sorry about the former reply to Barbara's post...I didn't know KitePhil was Phil Broder. My bad ! Anyway, I have a pristine, never flown, 1983 Vertical Visuals Classic Roller I would like to donate as a prize to the donors to the Japan Fund. How do I go about this ? Do I send a picture of the kite ? I just discovered this kite this week-end in sorting through my kite collection, and realized that it was from left-over inventory from my kite shop that folded in 1985. It was still in it's original packaging, and unopened. All VV rollers were great fliers and beautiful kites...I value the many that I have highly. Would make a good prize for those interested in kite history.

Re: Kite friends in Japan
Charlie,
That's a great kite. A great flier, too. I've already donated once, but I'd do it again if that kite is going into the pot.
