pwmeekMy closest flying field is $20 away (round trip). My closest major festival is $170 away. A Rev kite is several hundred dollars. $40 is not why membership is declining.[/quote wrote:
While I can see you point, I think it's a combination of that and the age old question... "what is the AKA doing for me". When renewal comes up a person looks at the $40 and asks themselves what they got for that $40 last year. I can see where $40 _is_ a lot of money but especially when people feel that they are getting next to nothing for it.
I'm not saying that is my view... I'm just putting it out there.
Having met Bob Ingraham in person, and joining the AKA the first time around in 1977, I'm deeply sentimental and my soul is tied into our AKA and it's survival and presence as the CORNERSTONE of kiting worldwide. It goes WAY beyond just a "Kite Club" or one of many kiting organizations for me! THIS is the Best part of my childhood, teen, young adult life, and my current recovery back to my sanity by returning to the AKA and kites as the focus of my life!
