Who is headed to Sunfest and/or Wildwood for the convention?
Who is headed to Sunfest and/or Wildwood for the convention?
I have been thinking about a Region 8 team builder for the convention. I assume we will have a few members from our region there and it might be nice to stand out. At the least we will have a few Texas Shirts seen in the crowd. We need to figure out something that includes all of our Region. If you have any ideas please pass them along.
Cow bells and such sounds like a good start. How about a hat that says where the heck is Enid OK? I have been there and plan to return.. Of course we can answer its where the who's who of kiteflyers will be this time next year....

From the lack of response I have to assume that the attendance from our Region is minimal. I have three prople on the list right now and I assume that a few more have not been online to get on the list. I will bring a few goodies for our group to use and stand out in the crowd.
Rick Hawkins
Don Cupit
Kathy Nixie
Assumed
Richard Dermer
Marti Dermer
Cat Gabriel.... Im not sure if she is still in our region.

Don and I arrived at Sunfest and found that the rain had not scared away all of the crowd. We had a few afternoon showers that slowed things down in between the giant bubble blowing event that involved the folks on the boardwalk. I will get some pictures posted on webshots soon.

I am sad to report that at the end of the season the only tram car that I saw is sitting on my shelf as a reminder of the trip.
Besides the people mentioned above Jean and Ralph Gore were also at the convention. We had a great time and home more people from the region can join us next year with the Convention being so close to home.

We did have fun in Wildwood 2011, didn't we? And now gearing up in 2012 for Enid, Oklahoma. ?Are cowboy boots and spurs pre-requisites?

Snake boots may come in handy, Okllahoma has many poisonous snakes like copperheads, rattle snakes and cotton mouths to name a few. Who's doing field set up ?
Forty-six species of snakes are native to Oklahoma. Only seven species are harmful to humans. Venomous species are the copperhead, cottonmouth, and five rattlesnake varieties (the western diamondback, the timber, the prairie, western massasauga and the western pigmy).
Cottonmouths are aquatic residents of the eastern one-third of the state and those counties along the southern boundary, west to Comanche county. Copperheads can also be aquatic. Cottonmouths, copperheads, massasaugas and pigmy rattlesnakes are usually found in moist areas. Prairie rattlesnakes are found in the prairies of western Oklahoma while the timber rattlers inhabit the forested eastern half of the state. Western diamondbacks are most common in southern and western Oklahoma, but have been found as far north as Tulsa, Cherokee and Adair counties. Rocky outcrops are the favored habitat of rattlesnakes and copperheads. These outcrops provide shelter, basking and possible hibernation sites.

The Great pizza place is not really that close. Then again nothing is that close... Plan a side trip to Visit stillwater just down the road a hour or so for great Pizza and probably the only Pizza Joint with kites decorating the walls. Its a busy place during football season and the food is worth the drive. They were even featured on a food network best place to eat in Oklahoma.
