American Kitefliers Association

Being a Regional Director is a tough job. You have to try and keep your region informed go to as many events as humanly possible  push membership at every event plus hound members who's dues are past due. if you are competitor this is not a job for you  If you love e-mail and don't mind getting peppered with silly questions  this might be a job to consider.  Believe it or not I'm thinking about doing it again. Region One is number one for a reason !!!

Woody, I'm happy to see your enthusiasm for kiting! I am trying to tell Everyone, "DON'T GIVE UP ON THE AKA!"  I keep getting Bashed down by several Kiters whom I assumed were part of "US", with Anti-AKA remarks of all sorts. Trying to convince more people that THEY ARE part of us instead of watching them run off and start "Reactionary" kite organizations that won't last more than one season, their URL's ending up in the hands of some "Domain Name HAWKER".

Without OUR AKA, society would go back to regarding kites as only Eddys made of newspaper and wooden sticks!
We are close to a decision on a Very Qualified AKA Veteran to fill in as Region 8 Director until an election is held next September at Convention ( which is in Region 8 also)

AKA may be going through some hard times, but the solution is to FIX it not abandon it.

I agree Pete, However local kite clubs are a major drawing card for the AKA the new kite flyer is more apt to discover a local kite club before ever knowing about the AKA. So if other kite clubs pop up across the country the AKA will benefit from it in the long run .

I think I learned about the AKA from seeing the magazine in a local kite store (Kites 'n' Fun Things in Plymouth, MI) back in the '80s.

I made a difficult decison based on the best interest of myself and the Association.

I was asked by the President to resign due to an incident that I was involved in 26 years ago.

I'm confused is Capt. Richard still the RD ?

Is this a sore subject or just a difficult question ?

Capt Richard resigned from the RD position.  Five people, 3 experienced and 2 new, have expressed interest in the position. A RD to serrve the region will be appointed during the 1/25 meeting.
