What: A fun day of festivities including a crafts fair, food and entertainment along with kite making, decorating and a flying contest.
Schedule (tentative, subject to change):
9 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Kite making at Ocean Beach Rec. Center, all materials will be supplied.
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Hot dogs and punch for participants & live band on Ocean Beach Elementary School
court yard.

Craft Fair Booths, Amusement Rides on Santa Monica Blvd.

[Denver] Our monthly club gathering and free fly for the east side of Denver

[Austin] Everyone is welcome to fly their kites or just enjoy the hundreds of kites in the air at the 84th Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival. This heritage event is attended by thousands from all over Central Texas and beyond.
The kite flying contest is for single line kites but every kind of kite is welcome. Categories include largest, smallest, highest angle, steadiest, most unusual and strongest pulling. All ages are eligible to compete. See our web page for events and rules. Trophies are awarded to first, second and third place winners. The Oldest and youngest competitors win trophies too. All kites entered must be home made. No pre-registration and it’s free to enter. See our web site for more information.
Sport Kite, buggy, fighter kite and other kite flying demonstrations will be held all day. Proceeds from vendor sales benefit Communities in Schools Pebble Project, an organization working to break the cycle of child abuse.

[Treasure Island] In honor of the devastating Tsunami that hit Japan on March 11 2011. Please join us for the Kites of Hope fly on Treasure Island Beach. Kiting Tampa Bay and TISKK are joining together for this worldwide event to fill the sky with kites! This would be a great time to fly any train or Rokkakus. [Pensacola] The Emerald Coast Kite Flyers Club will fly on Sunday March, 11 from 10AM until 4PM at the Casino Beach pier, Pensacola Beach, FL. [Mineral Wells] Kite festival, free kites for the first 100 kids, show kites, bouncy houses, kite vendor, displays, demos, prizes award for young/oldest/highest/most colorful kites/home made kites. Food vendor, games, music, and more.

[New York] This is a beginner’s kite-making class. We will be making diamond kites out of bamboo spars and recycled Patagonia windbreakers. Basic sewing skills are encouraged, but not required. This is a barter class, meaning instead of paying for materials you barter supplies and snacks for the group with us.

[Chico] Bring the entire family for this free family event. Experience the color and excitement of kite flying during the Annual Chico Kite Day. Watch the sky dance with fun and imaginative kites. An afternoon of fun is in the air. All kite flyers will receive a souvenir, compliments of Bird in Hand.

Chico Kite Day 2012 will be held on March 25th at Community Park just off 20th street at 1900 Martin Luther King Drive. Kite Day will run from 12noon to 4pm.

[Alexandria]
GLOBE, a science program, has recognized the young scientists in pre-k who are observing their environment. The use of the word kite has allowed the students to increase their vocabulary and study of phonemes and the syntax of the English language. Learning to write sentences is a higher order thinking skill for pre-k students. Songs about kites increase their vocabulary. The science of flying and the wind that is included in the defintion of weather or kind of weather becomes and exciting concept to students. The kite itself is a logo on our walls. The illustration of a kite allows them to apply their knowledge of geometry and manipulative skills that are used in writing and art. Most important the kite allows children to explore their imagination and to compare and contrast their use of magical kites.
