[South Padre Island] 9th Annual SPI Kite Fest - Sponsored by B&S Kites2-day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring kite displays and sport kite performances, silent auction, raffles, food vendors and lots of fun. Saturday night banquet (Mexican Buffet) and live auction - advance tickets can be purchased at B&S Kites - $15 per person. Bring a lawn chair - stay all day!
           
[Richmond] The closest thing that the Richmond Air Force has to a meeting, the First Sunday Fly of February 2009 conincides with the date of the Super Bowl. Members and anyone who is interested can come fly at Dorey Park on Sunday afternoon and escape all the pre-game hype and hoopla.

[Chubbuck] A fun afternoon of Asian kitemaking, followed by a parade across the street to the church park for a fun fly. Everyone welcome, children under 4th grade will need a building buddy. All kiters welcome to bring their kites to fly to celebrate the New Year!

[Fish Creek] This will be our 4th annual Fun Fly on the ice in Fish Creek harbor for all ages with no competition. Featuring several Giant kites, a precision kite team flying to music,
Kids making kites at the YMCA, a Smithsonian display of historical and artistic kites in the Town Hall as well as demonstrations of single, dual and quad-line kites.

MKS Retreat (MD)
[Frederick] Featured at this years kitemaking retreat will be Greg Kono of Kono Design in Seattle. Greg will teach his mixed media paper and bamboo kite using 23" coffee filters and shibori dyeing techniques. Also being taught will be a low-wind roller by Kevin Shannon, a high-performance Rev bridle by Paul LaMasters, a lantern style line laundry piece by Andy Burchfield and a small kite made from a cocktail napkin by Joyce King. Karen burkhardt will also have some non-kite crafts.

Constitué en organisme sans but lucratif en 2004, le Festi-Vent sur glace a atteint une notoriété qui a largement dépassé les frontières de la M.R.C. de Deux-Montagnes et il est reconnu pour être le plus grand festival hivernal de cerfs-volants au Canada. Mentionnons qu’en 2006, le Festi-Vent sur glace s’est vu décerner le lauréat régional des Grands Prix du tourisme dans la catégorie budget d'exploitation de moins de 1 M $.

[Walnut Creek] The event is from 1-5pm. There will be at least 2 hours of free flying/practice time. 2 hours of comp. There will also be kite repair going on. Please bring all parts needed to do the repairs help for repairs will be on site. We will also try to have a sewing machine there. All fees collected at the gym.
 
         
[Clear Lake] General fun fly with no competition. Ages 3-93. Snow skiing, stunt kite demo, kite vendor, food vendor, music. Held for the 8th year on the ice of Clear Lake.

Invited kiters from 8 states will be in attendance.

[Isla Blanca] This first ever event takes place on the grounds of the Acapulco Restaurant, and on the nearby beach. It is free to the public. Children from two Cancun orphanages will be treated to a kite making workshop and lunch. Big kites will fill the air, There will be two and four line kite demonstrations. Bol races for the kids with prizes. Free kite raffles and more. Volunteers are needed.
     
[Austin] Texans celebrate the spring by flying every kind of kite imaginable and we’re doing it on Sunday March 1, 2009 in Austin, Texas. The Exchange Club Kite Festival at Zilker Park has been held annually for 80 years. There is no admission or registration charge. The 2008 festival drew a crowd well over 15,000. Everyone is welcome whether they fly their kite or come to see the hundreds of kites in the air. Competition is for single line kites but every kind of kite is welcome. Categories include largest, smallest, highest angle, steadiest, most unusual and strongest pulling. All ages are eligible to compete in categories for youth and adults. See our web page for events and rules. Trophies are awarded to first, second and third place winners. The Oldest and youngest competitors win trophies too. All kites entered must be home made. Sport Kite, buggy, fighter kite and other kite flying demonstrations will be held all day. David and Susan Gomberg are our special guests. Proceeds from vendor sales go to help children in crisis. Come on down and enjoy “Kite Day” - an event that is uniquely "Austintatious". While you are here, enjoy the SXSW music festival and other spectacular spring happenings in the “Live Music Capital of the World”. Rain date is Sunday March 8, 2009.
