Kite Festival shows its colors over DeKalb Thousands of participants are expected at the “all-fun” DeKalb Kite Festival Sunday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The event will be held in the field of NIU’s “North 40,” at Lucinda Avenue and Kishwaukee Drive, DeKalb. This first-ever event of its kind in DeKalb will be a family-oriented affair. It will features kite-making for children, a candy drop, and singleline and show kites. Some of the area’s best kite-fliers and kite-builders will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate their skills. Many featured kites will defy description, including “fighting kites” and 100-foot-long inflated kites. Guest speaker and professional kite-flyer Jim Wirt will fly his Revolution Stackwhat organizers are calling a don’t miss demonstration of kites dancing to music.
