Description:
Lincoln City Celebrates the Pacific Wonderland:
Lincoln City, OR – Kite fliers from across the Northwest will be gathered at the D-River Wayside on October 10 & 11 for the 31st Annual Fall Kite Festival in Lincoln City. A celebration of both professional and leisure kite fliers with some of the most colorful big “show kites” in the world.
The featured fliers at the festival will demonstrate their flying skills throughout the weekend. Gary MacEachren will fly three dual line kites at one time. Gary is just one of three people in the Northwest who flies three kites simultaneously. Phil and Barbara Burks will show off their red, white, and blue kites, while Ronda Brewer will fly Roks. Al Washington, team iQuad, Amy and Connor Doran, Susan Gomberg, and Penny Lingenfelter will also perform during the Festival.
The 31st Annual Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival theme is “Pacific Wonderland”. In late 1960, Oregon introduced the "Pacific Wonderland" license plate in celebration of Oregon’s 100th birthday, which turned out to be its only stamped "slogan" plate ever made. This year Oregon is celebrating it’s 150th birthday and Lincoln City is celebrating with their “Pacific Wonderland” themed International Kite Festivals. We also held a photo contest in the Spring of 2009 and asked people to submit their favorite Lincoln City photos that match the “Pacific Wonderland” theme. All photos submitted will be on display at the festival. Come check out our entries! Scheduled activities will also include kite making for kids, a kid’s parade, running of the bols and a ROK Battle. The fun begins at 10 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. each day.
Festival sponsors include the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau, the Lincoln City Kite Friendship Association, Chinook Winds Casino Resort, Bella Beach, Tanger Outlet Center, Pelican Shores Inn, Beachcomber’s Haven, Starbucks Coffee, The Looking Glass Inn, Motel 6, An Exceptional Place to B & B Inn, Winddriven, Oregon Coast Today, T
