Description:
The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum announces an exciting community event is coming to Santa Maria—a Family Kite Festival! Scheduled during National Kite Month and slated to be held on Sunday, April 18, this day of fun, learning, activity, and food will be a FREE event for children, families, kite enthusiasts, and everyone who enjoys a beautiful outdoor day in Santa Maria. With activities, contests, exhibitions, and a lot of entertainment taking place all day, the event will be held from 11 am to 5 pm with non-stop activity available. The Kite Festival will be held at Rotary Centennial Park which is the perfect location to fly kites, enjoy one of Santa Maria’s best resources—the wind, and have plenty of room to learn and explore about kites. Kite professionals from around the region will be on hand to perform trick and stunt kite flying. There will be contests for professionals and amateurs to showcase their skills in kite flying, kite design, and kite beauty, as well as music, food, and local vendors on site all day. Activities for kids include kite flying lessons, a kite parade, kite-making, and kite flying contests. You are encouraged to bring a kite, buy a kite at the event, or make a kite once you get there! The event is free to attend and food and refreshments will be available for purchase.
