Description:
The 44th ANNUAL GREAT DELAWARE KITE FESTIVAL, co-sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation, takes place at Cape Henlopen State Park on Good Friday, April 6, 2012. This popular annual event is free and open to all ages and all levels of kite-flying ability. It regionally attracts kite fliers and spectators who line up to see the Easter Bunny during the morning competitions. For those who have not made their own kites and want to participate, vendors will be on-site selling a wide variety of kites and there is space to practice before the competitions, which begin at 10 a.m. Additionally, there will also be food vendors, face painting and community organizations set up around the field. There is no advance registration: you can register on-site, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and throughout the morning on Friday, April 6. Children’s and teens' competitions take place from 10:00 a.m. until noon, with an awards ceremony immediately following. Next is the Highest Kite Competition and then Adult Competitions, Open Individual Ballet and Individual Precision Competitions in the afternoon. The awards ceremony for the afternoon competitions concludes the day’s activities. Note that times may vary according to weather conditions and the number of competitors.
