Description:
Dozens of dedicated volunteers, my wife Pam, my first child Sarah (now seven months old), and I invite you to join us for a weekend of kite flying, fun and friendship at the 16th Annual Berkeley Kite Festival & West Coast Kite Championships. If you have not attended the Berkeley Kite Festival before, we are sure you will enjoy the event. If you are like many festival attendees, you will become part of the extended Berkeley Kite Festival Family who returns to Berkeley year after year. Our Berkeley Fest is a three-ring circus of kite flying and family fun. In fact the Berkeley Kite Festival has long been called the “event with something for everyone”. If you like big kites, how about 16,468 square feet of giant Peter Lynn kites! That’s the largest collection of Lynn inflatable kites ever presented on the West Coast. At last count we are expecting four Giant Octopi, three Giant Trilobites, one Giant Teddy Bear, one Giant Squid, a Giant Gecko, and a Giant Caterpillar. Want to meet the manufacturers of your favorite kites? Visit the Manufacturers’ Demo Fields, where you can meet and get flying tips from Revolution Kites and Prism Designs. If you like kids’ events, we’ve got free kite making and candy drops. For those of you who enjoy kite competitions, we present the West Coast Kite Championships, the largest kite competition in the western United States. How about the Rokkaku Challenge with Taiko drummers or the new Fighter Kite Challenge? Like Mass Ascension pins? We’ve got six! Like great food? We’ve got it! Like great music? We’ve got that too! Top off your great weekend of kiting activities by joining us on Sunday evening, July 29, aboard the elegant Empress Hornblower Dining Yacht at our annual Dinner Cruise & Awards Banquet on the San Francisco Bay. There will be delicious food, a silent but nevertheless exciting auction of unique kites and kite-related products, trophies for the winners of the various competitions, and of course, the magical San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Make your trave
