[San Diego] Celebrate New Year’s with two days of fun in San Diego. Fighter kite competition takes place the afternoon of Dec. 31 at Mission Bay Park, just south of the Hilton. When it gets too dark at the park, we'll move on to a New Year’s Eve party and night flying (location TBD). Our 11th annual New Year’s Day Fly will feature the colors of Rod and Cindy Thrall. They'll display a huge, blue (Peter Lynn) teddy bear, Gomberg crowns, large airforms, and enough line laundry and banners to let everyone know they're here! Ron and Sandy Gibian also plan to attend so they can visit all of Ron’s kites that now make their home in San Diego with Al Stroh, who’s been fiddling with a video camera attached to an 18' gemstone. If the wind cooperates, we'll have some memorable video to view New Year’s Evening. The day will include a raffle, potluck lunch, and 1- 2- and multi-line flying for all who care to join in. You can also feel free to sit back in a beach chair and watch the spectacle. Either way, come enjoy the warm, southern California climate while the rest of the kiting world stays inside or freezes!

[Providence] First Night Providence is a large assembly of artists on display throughout the City of Providence. Regarding kites we have an open ballroom with a "kids kitemaking workshop" for 400 kids. Paul Berard leads this clinic from 2-5 pm. Currently, we will run at least 2 sets of indoor kite ballet. Fliers such as Ron Graziano, Scott Weider, Paul Berard, Shawn Tinkham, Ari Contzius, and others will perform in a 30 minute set on the hour. We stop at 5PM, march in an artists procession and return for 3 more kite ballet sets from 6 - 9PM. Then, join our staff at the Seaview Inn in Newport! We're planning a BIG party at the Seaview after the event (10 PM to 1 AM). Come celebrate the New Year in Providence and then Newport, RI!
