[Fort Walton Beach] The 4th Annual Kitty Hawk Kites Beach Kite Festival will be a 2 day fun fly for all ages. This event takes place directly on the beach here at the Boardwalk complex on beautiful Okaloosa Island. We will have large kites on display, as well as kid’s kitemaking and other activities. There will also be a separate field for stunt kites and quad lines. Our space is limited but our participants always have fun!

[Hayden] This is our 2nd year having a kite festival. It is small gathering of of the surrounding area here in Hayden Idaho. last year we had about 100 people in attendance. There is no fee to attend and certificates ribons will be presented by the city of Hayden for those that register. we hope to give out a limited # kites to those that register. There will be a kite making workshop suppervised by local Boy/Cub Scout leaders from 8am-1030am-please email me for list of materials to bring for kite build and location of workshop-close to park. Registration to start at 11am in Broadmoore City Park. Staff will award ribbons/awards at 2pm and event will wrap up by 3pm. There will also be a seperate booth for donating kites to kids in Iraq for those that wish to do so. Help for kite making workshop and festival personnel/judges needed as well as donations of kites given at registreation as well as kites for kids in Iraq-will have to be screened for acceptance. I would like to have fighter-kiet demo for public attending.

Historic Bethabara Park, Inc., a non-profit organization, was established in 1970 to bequeath the Moravian heritage to the future in trust and to maintain a historic museum at the 175-acre site. [Santa Barbara] The 23rd annual Santa Barbara Kite Festival, will take flight 11am-4pm, Sunday, April 13th, 2008. The festival will be held in the “Great Meadow” on the west campus of Santa Barbara City College. The blufftop lawn overlooks the beautiful Santa Barbara harbor and breakwater and is a perfect location for kite flying. Parking is plentiful on campus and admission to the festival is free.
The Santa Barbara Kite Festival is always a fun-filled family-style affair featuring kites of all sizes, shapes and colors. Flyers of all abilities are welcome.
Competitions range from “kite fighting” and “sport flying” for skilled flyers, to the more accessible categories such as “most beautiful”, “highest flying”, and “largest kites”. One of the most popular events held throughout the day is the “tail chase” for children. Children in various age groups try to catch the tail of a kite as it dips and dives through the air. South Jersey Kite Flyers has participated (weather allowing) for 4 years. This year, SJKF in addition to kids kite making will attempt to stage some bol races down a cherry tree lined allee. For over ten years, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia has planted 100 new cherry trees each year. There are over 1,000 cherry trees now all under 10 years old. [Georgetown] The 2008 Georgetown International Kite and Culture Festival will be held at Cardome Centre in Georgetown, Ky, located 15 miles north of Lexington and 70 miles south of Cincinnati. It will focus on non-competitive kiting, kitemaking, and the ever popular kite battle performed by the members of the Tahara Kite Preservation Society of Tahara-cho, Japan. Lots of other activities for kitefliers of all ages. In addition to the kiting activities, the festival will include a cultural fair with food, music, crafts and cultural demonstrations from a variety of countries and cultures.

[Flat Rock] The 11th Annual “Mighty Kite Flight” is scheduled for Sunday, April 20, 12:30.-4:00P.M. The yearly spring event is a favorite of the young and the young at heart, More and more kite enthusiasts of all ages come out each year. Many are first time flyers as well.

The “Mighty Kite Flight” is sponsored by Narnia Studios in Hendersonville in conjunction with the national celebration, National Kite Month. The “Mighty Kite Flight” is the only sanctioned kite festival in Western North Carolina that participates.

At the “Mighty Kite Flight”, there will be demonstrations by experienced kite flyers as well as help for the novice. Many of the more seasoned flyers will bring an array of unusual and complex kites to exhibit.

The Mighty Kite Flight is held at Bonclarken located just off W. Blue Ridge Road in Flat Rock. Spectators and participants alike are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.

[Morro Bay] This is the second year BASKL has sponsored a fighter kite competition in conjunction with the Morro Bay Festival. The competition will consist of an AKA sanctioned American style fighter line touch and a skills competition if time permits.

[Flagstaff] Go fly a Kite with Flagstaff Parks and Recreation! Voted Arizona Parks & Recreation Association’s Most Outstanding Community Event, the 6th Annual Soar Into Spring Kite and Activity Festival will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Foxglenn Park (4200 East Butler Avenue). Entry is FREE although cost may be associated with some activities.

The day includes kite flying, kite contests, kite making workshops, arts and crafts vendors, carnival games, carnival rides, live entertainment, a bounce house carnival, the Coconino County Activity Expo, Pony Rides, a Petting Zoo, Bike Rodeo, Flagstaff Police Department helicopter, firetruck, crafts for kids sponsored, yummy carnival food, and a climbing wall. A variety of games and activities throughout the day will keep you on your toes and send you home with fun prizes and giveaways.

[Marshalltown] Soar with the Eagles is an event held for our Veterans at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, IA. The community comes out and files kites and helps the Veterans to fly kites to bring back childhood memories and show we care.
 
         
[Pocatello] The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pocatello ID will hold their annual kitemaking workshop and fly in conjunction with the Community Environmental Fair. Kites will be made from recycled flag tablecloths from a cancer survivors' event, in the CEF theme of GO GREEN - we will reuse, recycle, and reduce our waste. These and other kites will be made and flown 11 am-3 pm.
 
         
[Pocatello] The City of Pocatello ID will spotlight what Pocatellans are doing and can do to create a greener environment. The fair is free, with info booths, food vendors, and children’s activities including kitemaking for all with The Sky’s The Limit! community volunteers, and a kite fly at 2:30 pm.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars will host Go Green With the Red, White and Blue! We'll make kites from recycled tablecloths with a flag motif. In exchange for bringing your shopping bags, during an hour called My Kite’s My Bag, we'll fashion Asian kites from bags from your favorite shopping trip! We'll recycle newspapers and large paper bags into delta kites! Come fly with us, and celebrate the earth and sky!

[Katy] This is a display of character kites to promote a safe and healthy activity for families. Safety poster is displayed with the kites- as well as the National Kite Month poster.
 
[Virginia Beach, Portsmouth] As we pondered next years events and we would like to announce that the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival this year in Virginia Beach and Portsmouth Virginia will be held May 2 – 4, 2008.

This event is sponsored by both cities with additional sponsorship from HQ Kites and Jackite, Inc.

Our schedule this year, as we expand, includes on Friday May 2nd (5 – 9pm) a party to view one of The Drachen Foundation Exhibits and for welcoming the kite flyers. A Kite Festival Saturday May 3rd (10 – 5) at the Virginia Beach ocean front (same as previous years) with a party afterwards at the Stankus’ residence. And finally, on May 4th (11 – 4), a Kite Festival at the city park in Portsmouth VA, which is just around the corner.

[Edgerton] The program for the Pack Meeting will include a session where there will be some Chinese kites on display. Presenter will give a short history of kites in China. Two short stories will be presented on kites and kite building. Then the Cub Scouts will have a chance to make a small, paper kite which will fly indoors under Scout power, or outside in gentle breezes.

Saturday the Candy drop will take place at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (Weather depending). [St. Louis] The Science Center will have a 2 day festival to kick off a display in conjunction with Taiwanese American Heritage Week. Over 60 kites will be part of the one month display. The Science Center will be issuing a design challenge to area schools for the month of April that will be judged this weekend. Taiwanese Kite Master Buteo Huang will be brought in to fly some trains and a commissioned dinosaur kite that is 6.4 meters wide and 1.8 meters long. The Gateway Kite Club will hold demos both days. The organizers of this festival would like to see it to grow into an international competition, so spread the word and come help us share our love of kiting at the first of what may become a premier kiting event.

Many children’s games, water Choo Choo slide, water Obstacle Course, Space Jump and a FREE Kid’s Kitemaking Workshop are on hand. Food, beverages, snowcones, cotton candy are available for purchase. Annual Kite Fest T-shirts will be sold, so be sure to pick up this collector’s item. Admission to the Fest is $1 per person and games are $.50 - $5.00.
