The New York Kite Festival features the New York Stunt Kite Championships (Eastern League event) and featured guests from around the United States and Europe. This year, we are featuring Ramlal Tien (Zoone) and Iqbal Husain along with Ron and Sandy Gibian, Jose Sainz, Al Sparling and Mike Agner. Children’s kitemaking and other acitivies make this an event for the family. There is a registration fee for all flyers and a barbecue on Saturday night open to all for $20 followed by an auction.

Directions to Riis Park (Gateway National Recreation Area) From Brooklyn, Lower Manhattan, Staten Island, New Jersey: Take Belt Parkway East to Exit 11S (Flatbush Avenue South). Continue over toll bridge and bear left as you come off the bridge. On the right, you will see a huge parking lot for Riis Park. Follow signs around a wide curve (bearing right) to parking lot entrance. From Bronx, Queens, Westchester, Upper Manhattan: (Whitestone or Triborough Bridge) to Van Wyck Expressway South. Take exit to Belt

Contact Sky Festivals for the latest in lodging or for a registration form. We offer two options for lodging this year. The Surfside Motel in Howard Beach is located on Cross Bay Boulevard in an area filled with restaurants, shopping and entertainment. The Motel is close to Rockaway, and a ten-minute drive to Riis Park as well as accessible to the Belt Parkway and Kennedy Airport. Call for special room rates for the kite festival at 718-641-8400. Our second option this year is the Long Beach Motor Inn. It is a little further away, but is less expensive and quieter. The room rate at the Long Beach Motor Inn is $89 per night.
