Description:
The Maryland International Kite Exposition is a multifaceted event. It features local kite clubs (Keystone Kiters, Lehigh Valley Kite Society, Maryland Kite Society, South Jersey Kite Fliers, Sky Pilots, Susquehanna River Rats, Winds and Rainbows, and Wings Over Washington) exhibiting kites and managing interactive kite fields for the public. On a guest exposition field, nine featured kitemakers are showcased. Three International, three international, three national and three regional kitemakers are selected each year. The nearest airport is the Ocean City / Salisbury, MD airport serviced by US Airways.
Comments:
Several hotels offer special rates for kitefliers attending. The Shoreham Hotel (410-289-7972), located at 4th Street and the Boardwalk is central to all activities and the hotel where most of the guest kitemakers are lodging. The Plim Plaza (800-638-2106) at 2nd Street and the Boardwalk is nearest the sport kite activities and registration. The Comfort Inn (800-282-5155), at 5th Street, is next to the Kite Loft. The Kite Loft is very helpful with other suggestions about what to do and see in the Ocean City area, and can be reached at 410-289-7855.
