Description:
On March 12, 2000, thousands of people from Austin and central Texas will once again come to Zilker Park on a spring day to bring their kites or just picnic and watch the fantastic colors and shapes of the kites being flown. Participants can enter contests ranging from largest to smallest kite, highest flying to strongest pulling, or even compete for most unusual kite. The oldest and the youngest competitor also win a prize. No fee is ever required to compete in any of the categories. The Zilker Park Kite Contest is one of the longest continuously running Kite Festivals in the country, and one of Austin’s longest running civic celebrations. The Kite Contest is truly part of Austin’s heritage. The 2000 Zilker Park Kite Festival will be held on Sunday, March 12 with registration beginning at 11am and events beginning at 1:00.

Austin: Interstate 35 to Riverside Drive. West on Riverside Dr to Barton Springs Road. Left onto Barton Springs Road. Stay on Barton Springs Road. Barton Spings Rd goes through Zilker Park. Can't miss it!
