[Virginia Beach, Portsmouth] Welcome to the 5th Annual Virginia Beach Kite FestivalOur festival is geared for families and you can see many different types of kites - single line, dual line, and multiple-line kites. We invite you to engage the flyers and ask questions and above all, fly your kites. If you are interested in a particular kite or in kite flying, please ask and one of the fliers will be glad to answer your questions or teach you how to fly.Many of the fliers come from local kite clubs – Richmond Air Force or “RAF” from Richmond and Wings Over Washington or “WOW” from the D.C. area. Also featured are kite fliers from the New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Florida. Most flyers are members of the American Kitefliers Association (AKA), a national organization dedicated to educating the public in the art, history, technology, and practice of building and flying kites.Many of us fly in National Competitions. Some make their own kites being judged on their sewing skills, choice of color combinations, eye impact, themes, and aerodynamics. Multi-line kites competitors fly (or draw) figures in the air (squares, triangles, circles and more complex figures). Another competition event is called ballet where one or more fliers fly their kite(s) to music. Their goal is to bring an interpretation to the music through the movement of the kite(s).Thanks for joining us and have a great time!

We open the kite festival with a party at the Courthouse Galleries, in Portsmouth and work our way into fun for the whole weekend. Vendors will be selling their kites and products. The Richmond Air Force (RAF), Wings Over Washington (WOW) and members of several other kite clubs (New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Florida) will be providing demonstrations and instructions for dual and quad line kite flying for all the events. So please come and meet the kite flyers. [Galesburg] Schedule of Events: Saturday & Sunday the outdoor kite flying festival begins at Lake Storey Park. This event is FREE for the whole family. Grounds open Saturday at 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Sunday grounds open at 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Cookouts provided by local area provider. Saturday the Candy drop will take place at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (Weather depending). The Silent Auction starts Saturday and ends Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Sunday the Candy drop will take place at noon, and 1 p.m. (Weather depending). Kite flying lessons will be provided by professionals both Saturday & Sunday. Each year new and exciting events take place during the two day outdoor event. This event is brought to you by the City of Galesburg Recreation Division and local businesses in the community!

[Grinnell] 8th Annual Free, Fun, Friendly Kite Festival expands to host over 30 kite flyers during 3 day celebration!

[Tulsa] Tulsa Wind Riders Festival of Kites is a large annual 2 day fun fly with demos, kite making for kids, no registration, no competitions. This fun fly is on the site of the 1995 AKA convention. Camping allowed. Motels and fast food is nearby.

[Corolla] Sunday, May 10 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm - Fun Fly FestivalWatch and learn how to fly all kinds of kites. Children enjoy making paper kites to keep or bring your own to play with. [Pontiac] A host of kite flying activities is set to begin on Saturday, May 30 at 10 AM during the Third Annual Pontiac Kite Festival, located at the Pontiac Rec Plex 2104 Old Airport Road. The weekend long event will feature wonderful FREE family entertainment. On site will be Chicago Kite/Kite Harbor; Illinois Kite Enthusiast Club; Sparling Entertainment and 180 GO - The premier Midwest Quad Kite Flying Team! Come out and enjoy music provided by DJ Lane Lindstrom, who will be sharing a wonderful assortment of music including some great kite flying tunes. Several food vendors serving a variety of delicious food will be on hand too! Grab your lawn chair and kite, or buy a kite on site. The festival will set sail Saturday and Sunday, May 30 & 31, 2009 from 10 AM to 5 PM.

[East Tawas] The Bay City Times Breeze on the Bay Tawas Bay Kite Festival is a two-day event on the beautiful beach in East Tawas, MI on May 30-31, 2009

[Revere] There will be children’s activities, music and fun for the whole family. Where? Revere Beach. Time? 10:00 am to 4:00 pm This event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Kelly’s Roast Beef, The Revere Beach Partnership, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and Sea Side Kites, Inc.
