MKS Retreat (MD)
[Ellicott City] The 2011 winter retreat will again be held at the fabulous Turf Valley resort. Robert Brasington will come all the way from Tasmania present two projects: the "Kindness of Strangers," a wide aspect single-line with flowing gossamer tail, and one of his great kinetic spinners. From the local club Wings Over Washington, Ron Petalito, will present a kite he designed specially for MKS Retreat: the "MKS Koi Kite." This is a singl-line kite made from inexpensive butcher paper and wood dowels. There will also be other small crafts for non-kite builders. The gathering hall is a large, column-free space with lots of windows that look over the golf course. Every registrant will be provided with an 8' table and access to power. The Retreat will have a Friday evening "Get aquainted" social, and a banquet with auction on Sunday evening. (Donations welcome.)

[Isla Blanca] The Isla Blanca Kite Festival was started this year as a way to get people to come down and enjoy the beautiful scenery and fly kites on the beach. We also bring kids from a local orphanage to the event and give them a kite to fly, lunch, and a toy to take home. Isla Blanca is mostly undeveloped. Senor Navarro, owner of the Acapulco Restaurant, is nice enough to lease us the grounds of his restaurant as a staging area for the festival. If you come, you will do kite making with kids who have never owned a kite, Bol races with kids who have never seen one. Kite boarders from the Ikarus Kiteboarding School will be on hand and do demo's. This year Pericos is donating the food for the festival. Isla Blanca is "Country" as we know country. Our host hotel is in downtown Cancun. It is close to a lot of local action. Contact Charles for all needed details
