[San Marcos] On April 8th and 9th, 2000 the San Marcos Bluebonnet Lions Club will host a flight-filled weekend of family fun at River Ridge Park. The Kitefest is a nationally ranked event, is sanctioned by the American Kite Association and we expect well over 5,000 local, regional and national kite enthusiasts this year. The annual Bluebonnet Kite Festival is one of the larger free events held in San Marcos. We have many exciting activities planned including AKA kite flying contests, kite entertainment and exhibition flying. A 5K Run/Walk, Children’s activities, food booths, and live entertainment are also planned to round out this alcohol-free weekend. All funds raised through this event arte used for charitable purposes in the San Marcos community throught the Bluebonnet Lions Club.

[Hays] The 2nd annual Kites for CASA will be held in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, and will raise money for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of the High Plains, Inc. This is a non-competitive festival and will include numerous events for kite flyers of all ages and levels.

[Texarkana] Kites Over Texarkan is an annual Kite Festival sponsored by the Sugar Hill United Methodist Men’s Group. Our first festival was held on March 27, 1999. Some 650 kite flying enthusiast were in attendance. It was attended by members of the AKA who acted as judges and did synchronized kite flying exhibits. The gathering is open to everyone with an interest in kite flying.

[Ocean City] The Maryland International Kite Expo is an exciting event that features a showcase field for kitebuilders, the 11th Annual Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships, kite games, demos and free sport kite lessons. Three sound stages cover ten blocks of high flying fun. This year, "Women Influential in Kiting" is the theme for the festival. Some of the featured guests include Joann Weber, Nancy Lockwood, Margo Brown, Valerie Govig, Tanna Haynes, Kathy Goodwind, Sherrie Arnold and Barbara Meyers to name a few.
