The Ansel Toney Kite Show will begin with an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will remain on display through August 31 during The Farmland Center's regular business hours.
Historic Farmland USA Director Darrin Murrell said Ansel Toney, perhaps more than any other resident of Farmland, truly embodied the essence of what the local community is all about - talent, craftsmanship, hard work, artistic expression, individualism and integrity.
"He was also noted for his homespun friendliness and warmth with which he greeted every guest and poured into every kite he ever made," Murrell said.

[Virginia Beach & Portsmouth] Last year we had awesome winds and kites painted the skies. Wow kite flyers it’s almost time for the 9th Atlantic Coast Kite Festival again this year in Virginia Beach and Portsmouth, VA. We open the kite festival with a get together at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center with live music, drinks and food not just for the kite festival attendees but open to the public. From there we work our way into fun for the whole weekend including a party Saturday night. This year, we again have a limited amount of hotel rooms for kite fliers and volunteers. Almost all meals are provided for flyers during the festivals and festivities Friday and Saturday nights. We also offer gas money to some coming in from far away (email for details). So, pack a car full of fliers, kites, volunteers and enthusiasts and join us.

Cliff & Joyce Quinn will join local kiters to offer kite history, kite making and kite flying for the first 350 kids in attendance. The event is free to all.

[Clontarf] In 2013, the Redcliffe KiteFest will be given a new lease of life with a number of exciting changes. Expected to attract a crowd of over 20,000 people, visitors will revel in a weekend of roaming through hundreds of speciality arts and craft markets, gourmet food stalls, kite displays, live entertainment, aerobatic displays, kite‐making workshops and amusement rides.
The sky will come alive with colour and kites in various shapes and sizes that will leave visitors spellbound. An unprecedented line‐up of the world’s most popular and
successful kite flyers on Australian soil will attend the 2013 festival, including the USA/Canadian iQuad Stunt Team, Japanese Kite Master Mikio Toki, New Zealand’s Simon Chisnall and some of the best flyers from every corner of Australia.
The fun won’t stop on Saturday afternoon, instead it will continue on into the evening with the debut of the Saturday Night Concert from 5pm – 10pm. A massive fireworks display will light up the sky at 8pm after a spectacular fire show. The concert will be hosted by the loveable larrikins Ben and Stacey from ’12 Big Brother and will feature an “Aussie Legends” line‐up of tribute bands featuring ACCA/DACCA, Chisel Revived and the Ultimate Bee Gees show.
Also being introduced in 2013 will be a feast for the senses with the mini Seafood & Wine Festival spoiling visitors for choice with carefully selected stalls of fresh and cooked seafood, wine, cheese and other tantalising food options over the weekend. This area will include the Seafood Stage with acoustic and laidback performances all
weekend as well as a Seafood and Wine Kitchen.
         
[Long Beach] The second annual "Flyer’s Day / Lady Kite Fliers" is an informal kite fly that gives NW kiters a great opportunity to 'try out and fly out' their winter projects and socialize with fellow fliers. The Lady Kite Fliers add their astounding collection of ground and sky art to the scene. We will fly on Sat. May 18 and Sun. May 19 from the Bolstad Ave. beach approach. Fliers and guests are invited to an informal dinner at the Lost Roo restaurant on the evening of the 18th.

Sky Fest (ND)
[Garrison] Sky Fest continues a tradition of 20 years of kite flying at Ft. Stevenson State Park. During this family fun event, we will have a nice assortment of kites from kid kites to large inflatables and ground bouncers as well. Both in-state and out-of-state kite flyers have been invited and confirmed. A small concession stand is offered (state board of health approved) and Prairie Wind Kite Company is the kite vendor.
The airport is 5 miles (approx) away. My husband and brother-in-law are both pilots, so I know who to call for the notems. There are no power lines on the flying field, just one kite eating tree row and a flag pole on top of the fort. (humor here)
There will be no competitive kite flying.
Saturday will feature a kite making class and the kites of the day will be Mike Shaw and Deb Lenzen's art kites.
Sunday will feature a candy drop and the kites of the day will be cellular.
Monday will feature bol races (small) and the kites of the day will be Red/White/Blue anything.
Don and Betty Murphy and Mark Brandt will be flying large inflatables and foils/sleds during the entire weekend.
         
[St. Thomas] The 22nd annual Strawberry Fields Kite Festival takes place on two days (for the first time!) on the south lawn of Regional Mental Health Care - St. Thomas, the largest flying field in southwestern Ontario.
Mostly a fun fly - with the field open to anyone with a kite - the festival has been attended by members of kite clubs from all over Ontario, as well as Michigan and New York states.
The festival features lots of things for children - a kite making workshop, face painting and bubbles, as well as food vendors and other exhibitors. With free admission and plenty of on site parking, this is a community event that brings together the public and dedicated kite fliers.
         
[Milwaukee] The 26th Annual B93 FAMILY KITE FESTIVAL IS scheduled for Saturday, May 25th and Sunday 26th 2013, MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. NOW 2 days long! Sponsored by B93.3, and 102/1 WLUM Radio, Gift of Wings, and the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois, and Fast Track Oil change. The Fast Track Grand Launch will take place at 12:00 noon. [Pensacola] 8:00am-2:00pm. This is a free public event to promote healthy outdoor family play. We will have a kids kite-making tent (supported by Kitty Hawk Kites). We will also be flying and demonstrating single line kites, dualies, quad-lines, and power kites.
[San Ramon] The San Ramon Art & Wind Festival will feature 200 arts & crafts booths juried by California Artists featuring a wide range of artwork including paintings, sculpture, woodwork, toys, jewelry, hand painted clothing, stained glass, music, photography and more.
Kites are one of the main attractions of the event. There will be kite flying demonstrations throughout both days by professionals from all over the country and China, free kite making workshops for youth, and lots of kites to buy. After purchasing or making your own kite, spend some time enjoying the beautiful San Ramon Central Park and perfect conditions to practice flying a kite.

There will be professional kite demonstrations; friendly competitions; and free lessons and tips for novices, including free kite kits and decorating stations for the kids! Remote control kite demonstrations. Lots of unique single kites will be flown. There will also be all sorts of other types of family entertainment. Events runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
[Naperville] Chicagokite and friends will be performing for this event. We will be there for all your kiting needs. Location: Frontier Sports Complex, 3380 Cedar Glade Drive. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a…kite! Keep your eyes to the skies for the City of Naperville’s Kite Fly. Kites of all sizes, some as large as 90 feet, will be soaring through the sky for all to see. Plan to participate in learn-to-fly lessons, fun family flying, single-line flying. [East Tawas] Our festival is centered around children and families. It is an open fly and everyone is welcome. There will be lots of giant kites and lots of stunt kites, too. There will be free kite making for the kids and lots of giveaways. We have candy drops, music, and fun. Come on up to East Tawas and fly a kite. Time is 10:00 until 6:00. There will be a night fly......weather permitting.

[Farmland] The Farmland Center Saturday (May 4th) will debut an exhibit of kites made by the late legendary Farmland kite-maker Ansel Toney.
The Ansel Toney Kite Show will begin with an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will remain on display through August 31 during The Farmland Center's regular business hours.
Historic Farmland USA Director Darrin Murrell said Ansel Toney, perhaps more than any other resident of Farmland, truly embodied the essence of what the local community is all about - talent, craftsmanship, hard work, artistic expression, individualism and integrity.
"He was also noted for his homespun friendliness and warmth with which he greeted every guest and poured into every kite he ever made," Murrell said.

[Wildwood] Come join us for the 28th annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival where you'll enjoy four full days of activities, competition, camaraderie and fun!
           
[Crescent City] Come and join the Rogue Valley Windchasers for a 3 day Memorial weekend fun fly. Bring your favorite kites to display. You will be the show! Single, Dual, Quad lines and inflatables are welcome.
           
Sky Fest (ND)
[Garrison] Sky Fest continues a tradition of 20 years of kite flying at Ft. Stevenson State Park. During this family fun event, we will have a nice assortment of kites from kid kites to large inflatables and ground bouncers as well. Both in-state and out-of-state kite flyers have been invited and confirmed. A small concession stand is offered (state board of health approved) and Prairie Wind Kite Company is the kite vendor.
The airport is 5 miles (approx) away. My husband and brother-in-law are both pilots, so I know who to call for the notems. There are no power lines on the flying field, just one kite eating tree row and a flag pole on top of the fort. (humor here)
There will be no competitive kite flying.
Saturday will feature a kite making class and the kites of the day will be Mike Shaw and Deb Lenzen's art kites.
Sunday will feature a candy drop and the kites of the day will be cellular.
Monday will feature bol races (small) and the kites of the day will be Red/White/Blue anything.
Don and Betty Murphy and Mark Brandt will be flying large inflatables and foils/sleds during the entire weekend.
           
[Pensacola Beach] 8:00-4:00 Join us as remember and honor those who gave all. We will be flying kites and enjoying the outdoors while our friends with the HBTS Fishing Club will be surf fishing. We will be observing a moment of silence at noon to reflect and remember fallen soldiers. Picnic to follow.
