[Nags Head] Learn to kite surf with the original kite surfing school on Hatteras Island, Kitty Hawk Kites Kite Surfing School. Our special kite surfing clinics/camps are taught by PASA and Wipika approved instructors. Get the most comprehensive course available, 14 hours of total instruction for only $299.00! Advanced reservations required. Topics covered will include learning the necessary skills required to launch solo and assisted, land in the water, master the power intake. Progress to the water and perform exciting body drags through the water. Learn to control the direction you are being pulled, how to drag upwind, etc. Start the waterstart. Instructors will guide you through kite, body, and board positioning. Learn to stand up on the board, begin to plane, and then you are ready to start edging and to go upwind! Learn on a variety of kite types and sizes and become more educated on this exciting new level of Kiting. We supply all the gear and the classes take place in the wide expansive sound waters of Hatteras Island. The waters are warm, shallow, and calm. This is the perfect place to learn to kite surf! We have a private beach, shower, clean restroom, and a pro shop on site!

[Benicia] As part of Windworks ’01, Arts Benicia will host a kite-flying day at the First Street Green in Benicia between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Kite flyers around the region will be exhibiting and demonstrating their own unique kite creations. Kite flyers of all ages and ability levels are welcome to fly kites of their own. Windworks is a collaboration between Arts Benicia and the Davis Arts Center. Admission is free.

[Austin] Folks interested in making kites gather once a month to make kites and trade ideas and information. On August 18 from 1pm to 4pm Dave Dickerson will instruct a Circoflex workshop. These kites are perfect rings in the sky and draws plenty of spectators. Some sewing experience is helpful but not necessary. Bring along a sewing machine if you can. Materials will be available for purchase at the workshop. A framing kit will cost $7.50. Ripstop fabric will also be available for purchase. [longbeach] Call for Competitors - Open Invitational The First Annual International Shortline World Cup August 24th and 25th, 20o1 Washington State International Kite Festival Long Beach, Washington Poorly sponsored and barely organized by the Northwest Fighter Kite Association; they invite all shortline combat fliers world-wide to join in what promises to be one amazing and torturous event. Beginning on August 20th, NFKA will be sponsoring a full schedule of fighter kite events, demonstrations, beach fires, kitebuilding, fireworks, and all kinds of nightly dastardly experiences. Meanwhile…advanced warning…World Cup competition will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 24th and 25th. Line touch combat will be round-robin - all points count according to NFKA’s official rules of engagement… with perhaps minor additions, deletions and/or unspoken alterations based upon regional prejudice. =8-) The round-robin, open invitational format ensures that each flier will fly against many opponents of varying skill during the two days of competition. So make your plans early…accommodations in the Long Beach area get harder to find after spring begins.
