Kite Event Calendar

[Millford] This is your chance to escape the rat race for 2 full days of kite making, Chef Jim’s food, and camaraderie of some of the best kite people around. The ConnectiKITER’s will present their 1st ever weekend long kite making workshop. Projects will include a Rokakku, a Dragon kite, Miniature Kites, Hopi Coats, the ConnectiKITER’s Arch and a piece of Line Laundry. The presenters will include Paul Berard, Gary Engvall, Alice Hayden and Mildred Hayden, with support of many of our own kite makers. The workshop format will be such that every 2 hours or so a new project will be discussed and instructions distributed. Attendees are welcome to work at their own pace on 1 or all of the projects.

[Austin] On March 12, 2000, thousands of people from Austin and central Texas will once again come to Zilker Park on a spring day to bring their kites or just picnic and watch the fantastic colors and shapes of the kites being flown. Participants can enter contests ranging from largest to smallest kite, highest flying to strongest pulling, or even compete for most unusual kite. The oldest and the youngest competitor also win a prize. No fee is ever required to compete in any of the categories. The Zilker Park Kite Contest is one of the longest continuously running Kite Festivals in the country, and one of Austin’s longest running civic celebrations. The Kite Contest is truly part of Austin’s heritage. The 2000 Zilker Park Kite Festival will be held on Sunday, March 12 with registration beginning at 11am and events beginning at 1:00.

[Long Beach] Kite Museum Workshops are held at the Long Beach School Gym, all classes begin at 10am both on Saturday and Sunday. Register using the contact information below. No April Fool - John Freeman helps participants make a Bargello Quilt Design kite. Class cost $45.
