[Rockport,] We are opening up a new temporary exhibit at the museum in April on the Joides Resolution Research Vessel, a section of which will be about life on ship. One of the ways they pass time on the ship is kite flying, so we are holding a kite contest for kids to design and fly their own kites and where the winner of the competition will have their kite put on display and then sent to the researchers on the ship.
 
[Layton] This is the third year for the kites to be on the island and it just keeps getting better. We have had attendance in the 20,000 range that last two years and look to do it again this year. Food, live music, fun, games, kites, and hot air balloons. For the kite folks, not much of an agenda, show up and fly. A listing of invited guests will be posted soon.
         
[Beech Mountain] Saturday afternoon, we will have Kite Builders competition using simplified rules - Flight, Craftsmanship, Beauty in the sky.
Sunday will be a kids and family fun fly with demonstrations of sport kites and large show kites. Craft and food vendors will be on the site as well as a Kite Store. Free kites to the first 200 Children.
         
[Callaway] Professional and non-professional kite fliers attend this annual event. Separate fly zones marked off for the professional flyers. Concession stands provide access to food and drink. Admission $2.00/day
         
[Two Rivers] The 6th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan continues to grow in size and reputation. This is now one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest and attracts kitefliers from all over. Come and marvel at the giant show kites, precision stunt kite teams flying dual- and quad-line kites, spectacular and colorful ground displays, running of the bols, and games for kids. Learn how to fly two and quad line stunt kites from the experts representing kite manufacturers. There will be a night fly on Saturday night and a bonfire on the beach. There will be a fireworks finale after the release of Sky Lanterns on the beach. We are shooting for 400 plus of Sky Lanterns being released at about the same time this year. On Sunday, there will be free kite making for kids and another day of kite flying and performances. Free shuttle service available to and from the beach at designated downtown areas. There will be food and beverage vendors there both days.

[Brooklyn] Professionals and amateurs will be flying one line,dual line, and quad line kites on the famous Coney Island Beach between Bay 10 and Stillwell Avenue. All ages are able to participate.

[Cleveland] CLEVELAND KITE FESTIVAL! Edgewater Beach, Cleveland Lakefront State Park. You’re encouraged to bring family & friends to enjoy the two day event, fly kites, and help the club put on a show. Our kite friend, Con Engels from Windstar Kites, will have a traveling kite shop. For the kids, we will have a make it and take it sled kite workshop. Fields events: Rokkaku battles, Mystery Ballet solo and pairs (we choose the music you fly to it), kite performances, and demo’s (by anyone who would like to do one). Wind sprints for all age groups (race your kite while standing still). It’s music and fun all for free just for the showing up and joining in. So come help us color the September Sky.

Start your kite adventure with "The 33rd Annual Don Jacobs Toyota Frank Mots International Kite Festival to be held on Saturday, September 10th,& Sunday September 11th, 2011, in Veterans Park on Milwaukee’s Lakefront from 10:00 am until 6:00Pm Saturday and 10:00 am until 5:00pm on Sunday. We invited County Executive Chris Abele to kick off the festival at 12 noon with the Caribou Coffee grand launch of hopefully 600 kites. That’s right...two great days of flying. The event is sponsored by the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois, and Gift of Wings, and our newest sponsors, Don Jacbos Toyota, B93, and 1290am WMCS. [Ogunquit] The 13th Annual Capriccio Festival of Kites will be held on September 10, 2011. on the Ogunquit Beach from 10am to 2pm. The Festival is part of a two-week Festival of the Arts. Over 300 kites will be given away to kids to decorate and fly. All volunteers that help with set-up, kite decorating, or demonstrate any kite flying will receive a free Capriccio Kite Festival t-shirt and free parking. Come early, stay late, and help us flood the skies with kites.
 
         
[Jackson] The 9th Annual Prairie Winds Kite Fly invites you to enjoy many acres of flying space at the municipal airport from 10am to 4pm. A professional flying field, as well as, a family flying field offer ample room to fly kites or simply sit back and watch them! [Albuquerque] Kite flying is one of the most common entertainments across Asia, and this family-friendly event will be a showcase of kites of all shapes and sizes from Asian countries. Throughout the 2011 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC) will have “Asian Kite Flying & Kite Sales” every day at the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum grounds. This is a part of the Museum event “Lighter Than Air Fair,” which is organized by the Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum Foundation. All the benefits of kite sales will go to a local 501 (c) 3 non-profit agency, New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC). NMAFC is the only service provider in NM specifically serving Asian immigrants and their families in need by providing culturally sensitive counseling, case-management work, and other services both in Asian languages and in English.
         
[Waynesboro] Bring the whole family and join Waynesboro Parks & Recreation and Fly n’ High Flags & Kites for a day of fun at Coyner Springs Park on Saturday, October 1, from 10-3pm. Come watch 100 foot kites take to the sky while enjoying kite decorating, parachute races, old fashion hay rides, face painting, and a pick-your-own pumpkin patch. In addition, there will be a giant American Flag Ceremony at noon for everyone to participate in and a limited number of free kites will be given away throughout the day. There will be great food for sale, so bring your lawn chairs and plan on spending the day!
