The festival’s bluff top lawn location overlooks the beautiful Santa Barbara harbor and breakwater, and is a perfect site for kite flying. Parking is plentiful on campus, and admission to the festival is free.
The Santa Barbara Kite Festival is a fun-filled family-style affair featuring kites (and flyers) of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Flyers of all abilities are welcome. One of the most popular events held throughout the day is the “tail chase” for children. Children in various age groups try to catch the tail of a kite as it dips and dives through the air. Prizes will be awarded in most categories. Competitions range from “kite fighting” and “sport flying” for skilled flyers, to the more accessible categories such as “most beautiful”, “highest flying”, and “largest kites”. Kites will be available for purchase at the festival. There will also be food and beverages, and a kids zone with jumpers and family info tables. For more information, log on to www.sbkitefest.com or call 805-637-6202, or 805-963-2964. Email can be sent to sbkitefest@gmail.com , or davidhefferman@hotmail.com The “Great Meadow” (west campus lawn) is located on Santa Barbara City College’s West Campus at 971 Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara, adjacent to the college’s main campus. April is Kite month in Santa Barbara. Thanks to a proclamation by the city’s honorable Mayor Marty Blum and the Santa Barbara City Council in 2007, the month of April is officially designated as Kite Month in the city of Santa Barbara. In addition, the Santa Barbara Kite Festival was recognized in 2007 for its annual contributions to community recreation and family fun. Mighty Kite Flight (NC)
[Flat Rock] Fickle though it can be weather-wise, April brings wonderful breezes to fly kites by. Kids who grew up before the Space Age built their own out of newspaper, sticks and string. Those who came up later begged their parents to buy paper (then plastic) models at the hardware and supermarket. Now you can find them at toy and children’s stores. And on the Internet, there are sites for kite superheroes who fight them and send them screaming through the sky. This Saturday, April 18 from 12:30 -3:30PM is the annual "Mighty Kite Flight". It is sponsored by Narnia Studios in Hendersonville in conjunction with the national celebration of National Kite Month. Hundreds of kite festivals are held throughout the country in the month of April, according to the Web site, www.nationalkitemonth.org.“The yearly spring event is a favorite of the young and the young at heart,” organizer Barbara Hughes said. “More and more kite enthusiasts of all ages come out each year. Last year, our youngest was in diapers and our oldest flyer was 87. Many are first time flyers as well.” Many of the more seasoned flyers bring unusual and complex kites. Spectators and participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch. “Just a warning — plan to spend the entire day,” Hughes said, “because kite-flying is very addictive.”Free kites for the first 20 kids accompanied by an adult!

This free, public event will feature giant show kite displays, kite contests for people of all ages and abilities, celebrity bol races, kite building, live music and delicious food.
Kites On The Green is the brainchild of Mayor Paula Dierenfeld who loved attending her hometown’s kite festival as a child. “One of my fondest childhood memories was seeing hundreds of colorful kites fly over the golf course in the small rural town in which I grew up. Kites On The Green is a wonderful opportunity for central Iowans to come together for a family-friendly festival as beautiful colors fill the Johnston sky,” Dierenfeld said. |

[Wheaton] NOW GO FLY A KITE! The Wheaton Park District, Gift of Wings, and the Kite Society of WI & IL are proud to present the 7th Annual Wheaton "GO FLY A KITE" Kite Festival as part of the Tour de Kites. This event is planned for Saturday, MAY 2, 2015 in Graf Park from 10:00 am until 2:15 pm. In April, 2010, in conjunction with Wheaton’s annual Celebration, Wheaton residents attempted to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most kites flown simultaneously (967 kites). We had over 1,100 notarized registrants that day, and launched over 900 kites all at the same time. The families that came out for the event had a great time, so we are ready to “give it another try.” Flying for the 6th time, The World renowned Chicago Fire Kite Team, Dan Newman, Mike Delfar, O2, and Fire and Ice, and Elizabeth Gordon. The Wheaton Eye Clinic Kids Mad Dash will take place at 1:00pm and the Candy drop will take place between shows. Check this out! The Grand Launch will take place at 11:00. Gift of Wings will be selling kites at the park. For more information, contact Scott Fisher at 414-305-3145 or Kristina Nemetz.
