[Muncie] Ansel Toney was a kite flier, kite maker and great man who was officially recognized by the Indiana state legislature as "Kiteman of Indiana" and has been an inspiration to kite enthusiasts from all over the country. The Hoosier Kitefliers Society is honoring his memory and family name by hosting a two-day kite festival at the Academy of Model Aeronautics in Muncie, Indiana on May 5th and 6th, 2001. This was the site of the 1999 AKA Convention. Festivities will include sportkite competitions and demonstrations, free stunt kite flying lessons, large display kites, sled-kite workshops for children, flymart, silent auction, and raffle.

Ideal single, dual and quad line kite site with kitesurfing in the background. Restrooms and snackbar in in the immediate area.
[Huntington Beach] The Free To Breathe Kite Festival is a one-day event featuring professional kite-flying demos and lessons, kite building, a candy drop and a poster/poetry contest. There also will be information on what every individual can do to clean the air and an opportunity to dedicate and fly a kite in memorial of a loved one lost or living with lung disease.
         
[capitola] this is a family event on the beach in capitola,stunt kite demonstrations, but not competitive, lots of fun and prizes for all. make your own kite, come and have fun!
[Hull] Annual Family Fun Fly is a community event held each year on the beach. Sport kite demonstrations, candy drops and raffles.

[Grand Forks] This is our 4th annual Community Kite Festival. We have stunt kites available for people to try and we teach them how to fly. We also have kite demonstration and a radio-controlled candy drop from a kite for the kids. It’s a fun day for families. We encourage them to have a picnic and fill the sky with beautiful kites. We have a big, beautiful, flying field attached to a play-ground with facilities.

The Murray (IN)
[Valparaiso] 4th Annual Col. Muray Memorial Kite Festival. This is a low impact kite festival that keeps growing in its popularity each year. It is a fun fly, with many activities for children and families, and those who just want to come out and fly for fun. We encourage flyers to lend a hand with those just learning. There is a kids-n-kites area. Our goal this year is to get kites into those in our communiites and elsewhere that may be differently challenged, seniors, and of course to get those who may get hooked on flying. Col. Murray was one of the first pioneers in the midwest to put some practical applications to ariel kite photgraphy in the late 1890’s. He moved to NW Indiana and settled Sunset Hill Farm to operate a diary business, which was later given to Porter County as a park. Starlight Children’s Foundation MidAtlantic is the newest Starlight chapter and serves the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia. Our plans for the Starlight Kite Festival include, so far, boomerang demos, a juggling workshop, bubble machines, facepainting, stunt kite lessons, a kite making workshop, and lots of kite demos. [Rockport] In keeping with a five year tradition we wish to hold the above event for the benefit of kids of all ages, create interest in the sport of kite flying, and spotlight our community as prime location for enjoying the sport. Kite boarding Regatta, Kite Buggy Races, Sport Kite Competition, etc.
         
[Madison] Flyers from all over the Northeast join together to raise funds for Middlesex Hospital’s outreach programs. The festival will include a rok battle, flying demos, giant kites, kite building for children, and a kite museum. Open to any flyer that would like to join us.
[Long Beach] Come partake in a fighter kite fly! We will be meeting to fly fighters, exchange construction ideas and designs, and of course to fight! Line touch competition will be held, using the most up-to-date rules available. If we have enough people, we will have 2 divisions. Afterwards we can do some skills, including knocking cups off poles, pasting the kite, and flying the kite through a box.This event is simply a gathering of very enthusiastic fliers and is not sanctioned by or affiliated with any organization. These events will occur about every 2 months at various southern California. Bring to the event what you expect to get out of it, but you’ll probably bring home more.

The festival features the 16th Annual East Coast Stunt Kite Championships, the Wild Wheels Buggy Blast, the World Indoor Kite Competition, and featured guest kite builders from around the world. Join the Lehigh Valley Kite Society, the South Jersey Kite Flyers and other Region 1, 2 and 3 club members for this fun four day festival. Friday is the media day kickoff and features the Nite Kite Show.

[Corpus Christi] The 14th annual US Cellular US Open Windsurfing Regatta is proud to include for the second year the US Open Kiteboarding Invitational Freestyle Competition. Last year’s Champion Darian Smith and runner-up Mauricio Abreu intend to defend their titles at this year’s event. 10,000 spectators watch from a beautiful grassy bluff called Oleander Point on the edge of downtown Corpus Christi, Texas. The festivities last four days as windsurfing racing, music concerts, a bikini contest and more attract people from all over Texas to picnic and watch in amazement as the competitors jump 40 to 50 feet in the air doing stunts never before seen in the state. An Amateur Class will be offered.
