[Boston] National Kite Month

Please join us to celebrate National Kite Month
at Boston’s Poe John Paul II Park this Saturday and Sunday.
         
MIKE (MD)
[Ocean City] The Maryland International Kite Expo is a kite spectacular. It features the Mid Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships (MASKC), the Maryland Kitemakers competition, and lots of kites exhibited by guests and area kite clubs. Kite activities for the public by manufacuturers are included in the fun and educational aspects of the festival. There is a Saturday night awards banquet and auction.
         
[Oregon] This is our yearly park clean up and camp out. Come out and help take care of the park that takes care of us.

P.S. There will be some flying too!
         
[Orange] Now in its 8th year, the festival offers a great time for kite flyers of all ages and abilities. Come out and join Wings Over Washington (WOW) and Sky Jewels Kites. We'll be performing demonstrations, holding kids kitemaking classes (with prizes), giving lessons Running the Bols! We'll also be putting up as much "sky candy" (Giant Lobsters, FlowForms, etc). as we can. Sky Jewels Kites will be there too, with a great selection of the latest in sport kites and single line kites, as well as boomerangs and lighted frisbees, flags and garden spinners.

The festival runs from 11am to 6pm on Saturday, and from noon until 5pm on Sunday.

[Tulsa] 12th annual festival of kites will include buggies, fighters, single line, dual line, ground display, family kiting, kid’s kite making. A silent auction will be provided at the field with various kite related items donated by kite enthusiasts from the surrounding area.

[Marina] The Marina International Festival of the Winds, located in Marina, California on the Monterey Bay, is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing a free, family-oriented event that takes advantage of one of Marina’s greatest natural resources, the wind. The Festival is designed to increase the awareness and educate "kids" of all ages about wind through wind-related activities and demonstrations.

The Sixth Annual Event, over Mother’s Day weekend for one day only on May 7, will be a continuation of last year’s event, including kite flying, hang gliding, food, vendor and informational booths, live music and entertainment, kid’s crafts, kite making workshops and demonstrations, a Science and Technology Tent, and Giant Inflatable Air Park. [Windom] This event is geared for family and friends featuring kites brought out from the Solid Kite Group and a guest stunt flier to entertain participants. Kite making for kids and games on the Ecology Bus will also be available. The Discovery Quest treasure hunts will open up for the summer starting with this event! Folks wishing to explore Jackson and Cottonwood counties this summer can do so through 10 treasure hunts developed for this region.

This event piggybacks with the Wings on the Prairie day at Wolf Lake including a swan release over the wetland in the morning, along with prairie walks, wood duck house building, presentation by the Raptor Center and more! A bison burger feed will be held at noon and prizes will be given away throughout the day.

[Belmar] This is the Annual Spring Kite Fly on Belmar beach. In previous Years we have had a good turnout. The beach is usually over 500 feet wide in this area. SJKF, myself and the Belmar Chamber of commerce are hosting this open fun fly. The event will start on Friday night with a night fly weather permitting around 8:00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the fly will start from 9:00 am until... This event usually has a good spectator following with special interest in watching sport kite flying. We are hoping to have sound for at least one if not two of the days as well as some sport kite demo’s. Their will be kids workshops on Saturday and Sunday on how to fly single line (11:00 am) and dual line kites (Noon). The Chamber of Commerce is planning to have a kids competition on one of the days at 1:00 pm with judging done by towns people and prizes given out in various categories. We are hoping to make this a nice local event for the Tri State Region of NJ, NY, and Pa.

[Milwaukee] The 18th annual FAMILY KITE FESTIVAL will be held Saturday, May 14 and Sunday 15th 2005. NOW 2 days long! Sponsored by WJZI, WLUM and WMCS Radio, Gift of Wings, and the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois. Featured performers include Chicago Fire for the Second time, Josh and Zack Gordon, Charlie Sotich, Dan Newman, Paula Schenk, John and Elaine Cosby and Team Pegasus, Jim Cosca from Premier Kites, Jim Wirt, Mike Delfar and the Giant kites of Yves LaForest and Anne Clement. Veterans Park from 10 am until 6 pm. and is free with plenty of free parking. The Grand Launch of 500 kites will take place at NOON. Rhonda Ronsman will sing the National Anthem. This event will be shown live on the Internet! Kites and food will be sold at the festival. Kick off your Spring with the FAMILY KITE FESTIVAL!
         
[McGregor] The Andrew Baxter Memorial Fly, is an annual fly to benifit local non-profit orginizations.
It will include fighter kites, dual and quadline demos as well as team flying demos.
[Newark] 5th Annual Family Kite Day hosted by the City of Newark, Tri-city Voice and Scenario Games and Hobby Shop, Saturday, May 15, from 12 noon - 4 pm. Bring the whole family out for a day of kite flying and fun. [CHICAGO] Chicago’s skies are filled with colourful kites during Mayor Daley’s Kids and Kites Festival, held at the north side of Montrose Harbor in Lincoln Park.


Additional activities include face painting, storytelling and caricature drawing.

[Los Alamos] This event is held annually, adn last year it grew from a 2-day event to a 3-day event. Friday night kicks off with a night glow (large kites flown with lights attached) and a concert. This year’s rock band is on tour from Britain. On Sat. and Sun. the field is open for flying from 10 - 4, and Kite Building Workshops (and kite kits) are provided free for children from 11:00 - 1:00. There will also be a Kite Hospital, food vendors, a kite vendor, music by local bands, and any other entertainment we can muster up all weekend long. Attendance is large, but we have a seperate field reserved for stunt kites and always make accomodations to make large kites comfortable.
       
[Kippa-Ring] The Redcliffe Kitefest is a annual event attracting kiteflyers from all over Australia there is on stressing competitions just fun in the sun with supporting craft markets and heaps of food stalls, wine tasting and kids amusement rides

[Wildwood] The 20th Annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival, the East Coast Stunt Kite Championships, the World Indoor Kite Competition
Approximately 200-300 kitefliers attend the festival and participate in three days of workshops, competitions and fun flying. The festivals starts on Friday afternoon with a local school program, followed by a media fly, a barbecue and registration and ends with our annual Nite Kite Fly. Saturday is filled with sport kite competitions, fighter kite competitions, a festival field filled by local kite clubs and featured guest fliers. Inside the convention center, workshops and exhibitions of kites and kite related materials are open to the public. On Saturday night there is a Silent and Loud Auction.
Sunday is a repeat of Saturday with lots more high flying fun. On Sunday night there is an Awards Banquet and the theme this year is Mardi Gras East! So, bring some beads and a mask and join in with the cajun celebration.
On Monday, the World Indoor Kite Competition takes place in the Wildwoods Convention Center from 10am to 4pm.
We have rokkaku battles, attempt a world record for giant kites (bring yours) and numerous workshops for kite enthusiasts as well as the public.
       
[Junction] The Junction Kite Retreat is a 3-day gathering over Memorial Day Weekend at the Texas Tech Ext. Campus in Junction, TX. This is an annual event designed to promote kite making, and commraderie amongst fliers from all over the world.

[Garrison] Skydance is a three day festival held on the shore of Lake Sakakawea. This is a fun fly with kid’s kitemaking, dual and quad line demos, kite buggy rides, free drawings, raffle, and one-of-a-kind art kites. Come fly where Lewis and Clark floated by.

[Varennes] Vent D’Ékinox presents FreeFly 2005 June 4-5 ,2005.

This event kicks off the 2005 summer season. Normand Girard (AKA member) and owner of Vent D'Ekinox (VDE) is happy to sponsor the FreeFly 2005 event, Normand Girard will be the official AKA Chairperson for this event, the FQCV (AKA affiliated club Federation Quebecoise du Cerf-Volant) will help out by supplying AKA members to provide the security requirements of the AKA for obtaining the AKA Sanctioned status and insurance required by the City of Varennes, Quebec, Canada.

By having a festival at the beginning of the summer, new fliers will have the opportunity to meet up with the experienced ones, thus creating an evironment where the experienced fliers can pass on their knowledge. Its also a good time to discuss the upcoming events and make arrangements to attend them.

The majority of one line fliers in Quebec build their own kites. So this festival is also a venue for exchanging information on all facets of kite design and construction and stimulates creativity.

The site which is approximately 2000' long and 500' wide and will be divided into 2 fields with field orientation depending on wind direction.

Field 1 is reserved for Vent D'Ekinox for their kite demo tryouts and for the stunt kites.

Field 2 will be used mainly for free flying single line kites.

[Mooresville] Time: 4pm until dark. The annual Relay for Life event that raises funds and awareness for cancer and cancer research has asked kite flyers to put on a little demo to help participants pass the time. The demo can consist of ballet routines and/or examples of different kite types.
[Muncie] Times: Sat. 9AM - 5PM; Sun. 10AM - 3PM. This will be a fun fly in the company of some thrilling model aircraft flyers! Join us for some fun kite flying and then marvel at the unique and awesome model aircraft that will be flying most of the time.
         
[Albuquerque] This is our third annual event and again marks the beginning of the annual !Traditions! Wind Festival, a three month display of wind sculptures from artists around the world. The !Traditions! complex is located mid way between Albuquerque and Santa Fe New Mexico. This historic area is home to a number of Native American Pueblos and is rich in both history and beauty. The area is also home to some of the country’s best known Native American artists. This year’s event will feature an historic display of kites from Germany placed by The Drachen Foundation. This is a don't miss festival with some of the bluest skys you're ever likely to see.
         
[Glen Ellyn] The GLEN ELLYN PARK DISTRICT Family Fun Kite Fly will include the following activities: Demonstrations and stunts by “Chicago Kite”, “Sparling Kite Entertainment”, and “Chromatic Kites”. Kites of all sizes, as large as 90 feet, will be soaring through the sky for all to see. Families will have the opportunity to participate in learn-to-fly lessons, fun family flying, kite-making workshops, single line flying, and a night fly along with a chance to look at the stars, featuring the “Star Gazers”! But wait there is more... “Universal Hover Craft” will be showcasing with live demonstrations and stunts, children and parents will also have the opportunity to try remote control hover crafts on site. Come and enjoy free musical entertainment, raffles, and a kite flyin’ good time! Concessions will be sold at Holes & Knolls Miniature Golf Course.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own kites for this fun, leisurely kite fly sponsored by CHICAGO KITE.

[Junction] The Junction Kite Retreat is a 3-day gathering over Memorial Day Weekend at the Texas Tech Ext. Campus in Junction, TX. This is an annual event designed to promote kite making, and commraderie amongst fliers from all over the world.
       
[Bangor] Bangor’s first annual KiteFest, produced by Maine Discovery Museum, will take place at the Bangor Waterfront on the Penobscot River. In addition to playing host to several Northeast kiting clubs, the festival will offer professional kiting areas where the pros can show off their incomprarable skills. There will also be a novice flying area, lessons from the pros for beginners, kite history and kite building workshops, musical entertainment and the grand opening of a spectacular traveling kite exhibit from the Drachen Foundation at Maine Discovery Museum, a short walk from the flying field.
 
Skydance (ND)
[Garrison] Skydance is a three day festival held on the shore of Lake Sakakawea. This is a fun fly with kid’s kitemaking, dual and quad line demos, kite buggy rides, free drawings, raffle, and one-of-a-kind art kites. Come fly where Lewis and Clark floated by.

[Parkman] 5th annual "Come Fly With Us" re-scheduled from April (due to snow) Sponsored by Parkman Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy a fun fill day in the country getting back to the basics. [Hamilton]
The City of Hamilton Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a KITE FLYING DAY on Saturday, June 4, 2005, at 11:00 am in which kite enthusiasts between the ages of 5 -12 can come to the Wilson Pool parking lot located at 1025 Cleveland Avenue and fly your kites. There will be exciting prizes given for the most original kite, the biggest and smallest kite, and even a contest to see whose kite can fly the highest. The event is free and open to the public. There will be refreshments served. The only requirement is that you need to bring your own kite and string. The kites can be store bought or you can get creative and make it yourself. We will have staff on hand to assist you in your high flying adventure. So, if you are in to competing or just having fun, bring your family and friends and your kite for this one of a kind special event.
 
         
[Kenosha] The 4th annual "Outta Sight Kite Flight" will be held on June 4, 2005. (rain date is Sunday June 5th) This free event will be held in Kennedy Park on Kenosha’s beautiful lakefront. Sponsored by the City of Kenosha, Gift of Wings, The Kite Society of Wisconsin & Illinois, and WEZY Radio Station. Featured performers include Chicago Fire, Josh and Zack Gordon, Paul Keopke, John and Elaine Cosby presenting Team Pegasus, Jim Wirt, Mike Delfar, Kenosha’s own Dan Newman, Paula Schenk, and the Giant Kites of Yves LaForest and Anne Clement, and Charlie Sotich. Sponsored by The Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois and Gift of Wings. Be There!!
